HP Scanjet Enterprise 7000n/nx and 8500 fn1 Document Capture Workstation Series - How to Setup Scan to Print

There are two ways to provide Scan to Printer functionality on these two enterprise scanners.
  • Native, with no additional components, sends a PDF file to a printer via FTP. The printer must support both direct PDF printing and FTP printing. Most enterprise LaserJet printers and MFPs have these capabilities.
  • Using DSS software, any printer that has a Windows driver can be used.
Both methods provide basic printing capability. They send the scanned document to the printer. Printer defaults are used in both methods. There is no mechanism to change number of copies, simplex/duplex, etc.

Instructions for setting up native Scan to Printer through FTP

The basic function used for Scan to Printer is Save to Network Folder. These steps set up a Copy to Print Quickset on the Home Screen.
  1. Browse to the scanner’s EWS page by entering its IP address or host name.
  2. Select the Scan/Digital Send tab.
  3. Select the Save to Network Folder Setup on the left side.
  4. Make sure Enable Save to Network Folder, at the top, is checked .

  5. Select Add.
  6. In the Quick Set Wizard, enter the name you want to appear for the Quick Set, the location of the Quick Set (Home Screen or under the Quick Sets application), and how you want the function to start.
The basic difference between Enter application, then user presses Start and Start instantly upon selection is the ability to change scan options. With the latter setting, only the one or two sided originals option can be changed.

  7. Press Next.
  8. Select Save to shared folders or FTP folders.
  9. Select Add.

This brings up the screen below (see Figure 4).
  10. Enter the printer’s IP address or host name in the FTP server field. Make sure FTP Printing is enabled on the Printer (a screenshot of where to verify this is at the end - see Figure 5). If you use a host name, it probably needs to be fully qualified (example: NPIC29C05.americas.hpqcorp.net).
  11. Use the default settings for port and FTP Transfer Mode (21, Passive).
  12. Enter “anonymous” for Username, leave Password blank.
  13. Select Verify Access to test your settings. Watch your browser for a warning at the top about the page trying to refresh.
  14. After verifying access, select OK.

The rest of the screens allow you to change notification and default scan settings. Default values work fine for Letter paper.
  15. The screens will advance and finally show a screenshot of the Quick Set as it will appear on the control panel.
    Select Finish.
You’re not done yet. You will be back at the Save to Network Folder screen. You must select Apply at the bottom of this screen. After doing so your Quick Set should be on the display (or under the Quick Sets application, depending on how you set it up). Now you’re done.
