HP Scitex FB500 Industrial/FB700 Printer - Message E-UV-44 UV Shutter Motor Type Unknown Or E-UV-54 UV Shutter Motor Type Unknown

Issue
After removing and reinstalling a lamp housing, or after replacing one lamp housing with another one, on startup the printer displays the following message and the UV lamp system cannot be operated:
E-UV-44 UV Shutter Motor Type Unknown (User End Lamp)/E-UV-54 UV Shutter Motor Type Unknown (Service End Lamp)
Solution
Printer software KA B.03.04 introduced support for additional UV lamp motor hardware. When initializing the printer systems during startup, the printer attempts to determine which lamp motor type is present. If it cannot make this determination, the following message is displayed:
E-UV-44 UV Shutter Motor Type Unknown (User End Lamp)/E-UV-54 UV Shutter Motor Type Unknown (Service End Lamp)
In most situations when this message is seen, however, the actual issue is that the UV lamp housing has been installed incorrectly in such a way that the normal, full motion of the UV shutter mechanism is not possible. After attempting to move the shutter through an expected range of motion and getting unexpected feedback, the software displays the message that:
E-UV-44 UV Shutter Motor Type Unknown (User End Lamp)/E-UV-54 UV Shutter Motor Type Unknown (Service End Lamp)
When reinstalling the lamp housing onto the carriage lamp brackets, ensure that all four sides of the upper lamp housing are correctly aligned with the lower bracket that is attached to the carriage. See the image below for identification of these components:
  1. Removable lamp housings
  2. Fixed lamp brackets attached to carriage
  note:
In this drawing the outer carriage cover is not shown. It is not necessary to remove the carriage cover to work with the lamp housings.
To resolve this issue, shut down the printer and remove the lamp housing or housings that were most recently installed or adjusted. Carefully reinstall the housing, taking note that the removable lamp housing properly seats around the lower bracket. Check the printer's User Guide, chapter 9, for detailed information concerning lamp removal and reinstallation in the context of UV bulb replacement. The below images illustrate the critical areas of attention when installing the housing onto the bracket.
  1. Removable lamp housings
  2. Fixed lamp brackets attached to carriage
The above image shows the two views of the same service-end lamp assembly showing removable lamp housing (1) and fixed bracket (2). The view on the left is as it would be found installed on the carriage when viewed from the output side ("front"); the view on the right is rotated 180 degrees. Users can determine the front/back orientation of the lamp by the rectangular headboard-cable connector port (white in this illustration) found on the top surface near the air filter screen (black in this illustration). The louvers on the lower lamp bracket also indicate the outward or "front" facing surface.
The image above is same as the image below with the critical areas of attention circled in red. Ensure that the lamp housing (light gray) is properly fitted over (outside) the fixed lamp bracket (dark gray).
Additional information
Downgrading the printer software to version 3.03 or earlier also has the effect of removing the error message, but it does not correct for a badly installed lamp housing, which may still interfere with shutter motion and produce other errors or eventual hardware failures. Ensure that the lamp housings are installed correctly. If the issue persists, contact HP authorized service provider or contact HP Customer Care for further assistance.
