HP Mini 5102 - Removing and Replacing Memory Modules

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the memory modules for the HP Mini 5102.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the memory modules that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Memory modules removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. note:
    The video shown depicts a previous notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to the 5102.
  3. Slide the right battery release latch toward the center of the notebook to release the memory cover.
  4. Lift the memory cover and remove it.
  5. Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the memory board to the spring tension position.
      caution:
    When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  6. Grasp the memory board by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  7. Place the memory board in a static dissipative bag.

Memory modules replacement

  1. Remove the memory board from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Align the notch in the memory board with the key in the board receptacle on the system board.
  3. Grasp the memory board by the edges and push gently to replace it.
      caution:
    When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  4. Press the memory board down to latch the arms.
  5. Toe the memory cover into the base enclosure and press down to secure it.

Verifying successful repair

Power on the server and verify that the BIOS memory and processor messages are displayed on the monitor during the boot process.
