HP ProBook 4425s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Palm Rest

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the palm rest for the HP ProBook 4425s Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
  • Small, Phillips-head (P0 and P1) screwdrivers.
Parts required

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the optical drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Palm rest removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Partially or completely remove the keyboard. Click here for instructions on how to remove the keyboard.
  3. Temporarily, remove any card or blank from the ExpressCard slot.
  4. Remove the three 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the palm rest to the top cover.
  5. Slide the palm rest to the right just enough to release it from the top cover.
  6. Carefully flip the palm rest upside down to gain access to the ribbon cables below.
  7. Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the TouchPad ZIF connector and disconnect the TouchPad ribbon cable from the system board.
      caution:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.

  9. Remove the palm rest.
Palm rest replacement
  1. Insert the fingerprint reader ribbon cable into the ZIF connector on the system board.
      caution:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  2. Push the locking bar down to secure the TouchPad cable in the ZIF connector.

    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  3. Push the locking bar down to secure the fingerprint reader cable in the ZIF connector.
  4. Position the palm rest just to right of the screw holes in the top cover.
  5. Slide the palm rest to the left under the guide tabs in the top cover to fully seat it over the screw holes.
  6. Replace the three 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws to secure the palm rest to the top cover.
  7. Replace any card or blank in the ExpressCard slot that you removed earlier.
