This document pertains to notebook PCs with Windows 7.
When using a computer running Windows 7, a window may appear indicating that you should consider replacing the battery. A red X may appear on the battery icon in the system tray. The notebook computer may also automatically shut down if Windows 7 determines that the battery has low charge remaining.

This behavior has been observed on notebook computers that are either upgraded to Windows 7 or came with Windows 7 preinstalled.
Windows 7 communicates with the BIOS software on the computer to determine the amount of charge capacity remaining in the battery. The message window will appear when the operating system detects that the battery is performing at 40% of its designed capacity.
