HP Compaq Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Memory Board

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the memory board for the dv4000, dv4100, dv4200, v4000, v4100, v4200, nx7200 and nx7220 series notebook PCs.
Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.

Step 1 - Remove the battery

  1. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
  2. Use your finger to lift the battery up and out of the battery compartment.

Step 2 - Remove the memory board

  caution:
When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  1. Loosen the three captive 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the memory cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the edge of the memory cover and remove it.
    note:
    The primary and expansion memory slots and the wireless LAN Mini PCI card are located under the memory cover. The memory boards and the wireless LAN Mini PCI card are slotted differently to avoid placing them in the wrong slots.
  3. Spread the retaining tabs on each side of the memory module socket simultaneously to release the memory board to the spring tension position.
  4. Grasp the memory board by the edges and pull gently to to remove it.
  5. Place the memory board in a static dissipative bag.

Step 3 - Replace the memory board

  1. Remove the memory board from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Locate the alignment slot and align it to the empty board receptacle.
  3. Grasp the memory board by the edges and push gently to replace it.
  4. Press the memory board down to latch the arms.
  5. Toe the memory cover into the bottom case.
  6. Tighten the three captive 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws.

Step 4 - Replace the battery

  1. Toe the battery into the bottom case.
  2. Press the battery into the battery compartment until you hear a click.
