Escalation of Privilege

Summary

Polkit (formerly known as PolicyKit) is a software package included in all versions of HP ThinPro OS. A vulnerability has been discovered in PolKit that permits a non-privileged user with access to the Terminal or virtual console to potentially gain root (admin) privileges. The default configuration of HP ThinPro OS does not allow user access to the terminal or virtual console.

HP is releasing a patch to HP ThinPro OS 7.2 to remediate this issue. HP recommends that all customers upgrade to the latest version of HP ThinPro, 7.2 Service Pack 8 (SP8), and apply this patch.
