HP EliteBook 2530p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Keyboard

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Keyboard for the HP EliteBook 2530p Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

P1 Phillips-head screwdriver

Keyboard removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the expansion memory/wireless LAN Minicard cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the edge of the expansion memory/wireless LAN Minicard cover and remove it.
  4. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the wireless WAN Minicard cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  5. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the inside edge of the wireless WAN Minicard cover and remove it.
  6. Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the 1.8 inch hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  7. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the 1.8 inch hard disk drive cover and remove it.
  8. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw along the front edge of the battery bay that secures the switch cover to the bottom of the base enclosure.
  9. Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the keyboard to the bottom of the base enclosure.
  10. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw inside the wireless WAN Minicard compartment that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  11. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw inside the 1.8 inch hard disk drive compartment that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  12. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw inside the expansion memory/wireless LAN Minicard compartment that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  13. Turn the notebook right side up and open the display panel fully.
  14. Slide the switch cover to the right, lift the ends of the switch cover to disengage it from the top cover, and move it toward the rear of the notebook to allow access to the top edge of the keyboard.
    注意:
    While removing the keyboard, check for the sticky tape that holds the keyboard to the unit. This sticky tape has to be removed before lifting the keyboard.
  15. Lift the top edge of the keyboard and place the keyboard upside down on the palm rest.
  16. Using minimal force, flip the locking bar up to unlock the keyboard ZIF connector on the system board.
    注意:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  17. Remove the keyboard ribbon cable from the ZIF connector.
  18. Using minimal force, push the locking bar toward the front of the notebook to unlock the pointing stick ZIF connector on the system board.
    注意:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  19. Remove the pointing stick ribbon cable from the ZIF connector and remove the keyboard.

Keyboard replacement

  1. Place the keyboard upside down on the palm rest and insert the pointing stick ribbon cable into the pointing stick ZIF connector on the system board.
    注意:
    Use care to prevent damaging the pointing stick ribbon cable.
  2. Push the locking bar toward the rear of the notebook to lock the pointing stick ZIF connector on the system board.
  3. Insert the keyboard ribbon cable into the keyboard ZIF connector on the system board.
    注意:
    Use care to prevent damaging the keyboard ribbon cable.
  4. Push the locking bar down to lock the keyboard ZIF connector on the system board.
  5. Toe the tabs on the bottom edge of the keyboard into the top cover and press the keyboard flat.
  6. Toe the left end of the switch cover into the enclosure and place the switch cover into position on the top cover.
  7. Slide the switch cover to the left to lock it in place.
  8. Close the display panel and turn the notebook upside down.
  9. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw inside the expansion memory/wireless LAN Minicard compartment that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  10. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw inside the 1.8 inch hard disk drive compartment that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  11. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw inside the wireless WAN compartment that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  12. Tighten the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the keyboard to the bottom of the base enclosure.
  13. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw along the front edge of the battery bay that secures the switch cover to the bottom of the base enclosure.
  14. Toe the 1.8 inch hard disk drive compartment cover into the base enclosure.
  15. Tighten the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws.
  16. Toe the outside edge of the wireless WAN Minicard cover into the base enclosure.
  17. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw.
  18. Toe the expansion memory/wireless LAN Minicard cover into the base enclosure.
  19. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw.
