Attention light blinks
The printer has an issue (error state) that requires user attention.
Attention light blinks quickly (HP+ printers only)
If the light blinks approximately 4 blinks per 3 seconds, the HP+ printer might not be connected to the internet, or there is an issue with your HP account.

On the printer control panel, press the Start Copy/Resume button
.
An information page prints.
01 or Go/02 displays, and the Attention light blinks
The printer is processing a manual feed or duplex print job (printing on both sides of the paper) and cannot complete the job until the input tray is reloaded.

Prepare to load paper into the input tray, depending on your print job.

Manual feed: Load paper into the input tray.
-
Manual duplex: Remove the stack of printed pages from the output tray, and then load the stack with the print-side down and the top edge of the stack toward the printer.

Slide in the paper width guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.

On the printer control panel, press the Start Copy/Resume button
The printer processes the print job.
Go/03 displays and the Attention light blinks
The paper loaded in the input tray is not the correct size for the print job.
Load the correct size paper or change the print settings, and then press the Start Copy/Resume button on the printer control panel. For more information, go to HP Printers - Paper Mismatch error (Windows, Mac).
Go/05 or Go/06 displays, and the Attention light blinks
There is a request to connect to your printer over Wi-Fi Direct.

If Go/05 displays, enter the Wi-Fi Direct PIN in the HP Smart app.
To find the Wi-Fi Direct PIN, print a Configuration Report. On the printer control panel, press and hold the Start Copy/Resume button
blinks, and then prints the report.

If Go/06 displays, press the Start Copy/Resume button
P2 displays and the Attention light blinks
The first side of an ID copy is complete, and the second side needs to be prepared.
Turn over the identification card, and then press the ID Copy button on the printer control panel to copy the second side.
Er/01 displays and the Attention light blinks
The input tray is out of paper. Reload paper.

Load the stack of paper into the paper tray.

Slide in the paper width guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.

If printing does not continue automatically, press the Start Copy/Resume button
Er/26 displays and the Attention light blinks
The printer experienced an internal error.
On the printer control panel, press the Start Copy/Resume button . If the issues persists, reset the printer.
Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.
Service the printer
Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Er/81 displays and the Attention light blinks
The printer could not install the latest firmware.
On the printer control panel, press the Start Copy/Resume button , and then download and install the firmware again.
Update the printer firmware (HP Smart app)
Use Advanced Settings in the HP Smart app to check for and install firmware updates.

From the EWS home page, click the Printer Update tile. If the tile is missing, click Tools > Printer Updates > Firmware Updates.

If prompted to log in, enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit. This label is typically inside the cartridge access area.

Under Check for Printer Updates, click Check Now. Any new updates automatically install.
CAUTION:Do not turn off the printer during a firmware update. This can permanently damage your printer.

Supplies light is on or blinking
The toner is low or very low.
An Er/08 code displays on the printer control panel, and one of the following messages might also display on the HP Smart app or computer.

Cartridge Low

Cartridge Very Low
You do not need to replace the cartridge until the print quality is unacceptable.
Install the replacement toner cartridge
Install a new cartridge in an HP LaserJet MFP M139-M142 printer.

Open the toner access door, and then remove the cartridge.
-
Remove the new cartridge from its packaging.
-
Remove the orange cover from the cartridge.
-
Grasp the cartridge by its sides, and then rock the cartridge side to side five or six times to evenly distribute the toner.
CAUTION:Do not touch the imaging drum surface. Fingerprints can cause print quality problems.

Bend the orange tab until it snaps, and then pull to remove the sealing tape from the cartridge.
-
Align the cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, push in until firmly seated, and then close the toner access door.
Service the printer
Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Attention and Supplies lights blink
There is an issue with the toner cartridge.
Er/07 displays, and the Attention and Supplies lights blink
The toner cartridge is missing or not installed correctly.
Reinstall the cartridge
Remove the toner cartridge from the printer, and then reinstall it.

Open the toner access door, and then remove the cartridge.

Align the cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, push in until firmly seated, and then close the toner access door.
Service the printer
Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Check the toner cartridge
Check for and remove the orange clips and/or sealing tape from the cartridge.

Open the toner access door, and then remove the cartridge.

Check for and remove the orange clips from the cartridge.
-
Check for and remove the sealing tape from the cartridge.
-
Align the cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, push in until firmly seated, and then close the toner access door.
Service the printer
Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Attention and Ready lights are on
The printer is in an error state.
Er/66 displays, and the Attention and Ready lights are on
There is an issue with the wireless hardware on the printer.
On the printer control panel, press the Start Copy/Resume button to continue printing with a USB connection instead. To fix the wireless issue, reset the printer.
Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

Wireless light blinks
The printer is open to receive a connection through Wireless Setup Mode or Wi-Fi Direct. Once connected, the light is on and solid.
If Er/61 displays on the printer control panel, the WPS connection failed. On the printer control panel, press the Cancel button , and then connect to the Wi-Fi network again.
Wait for the printer to establish a connection
The Wireless light blinks when the printer is attempting to connect to the wireless router or access point. Wait a few minutes, and then check the light again.
Troubleshoot the wireless printer connection
Check network issues when the printer does not connect to or drops its Wi-Fi connection.

Poor network connection: Move the printer and computer or mobile device closer to the wireless router, and then check if the signal quality improved. Try opening a website to see if the internet connection is working properly. If Wi-Fi is slow or intermittent, restart the router by disconnecting the power cord, waiting 15 seconds, and then reconnecting the cord.

Printer is off or in sleep mode: On the printer control panel, press the Start Copy/Resume button

Reconnect the printer to the network: Place the printer within range of the Wi-Fi router signal, restore Wireless Setup Mode, and then connect it to the network.

On the printer control panel, press the Cancel button
to wake the printer.

Press and hold Wireless button
and Cancel button

After the printer restarts, open the HP Smart app or go to 123.hp.com to install HP Easy Start, and then follow the prompts to reconnect the printer.

Restart devices: Restart the printer and the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.

Print a Wireless Network Test Report: Use the report to evaluate any issues with your Wi-Fi connection.

Press and hold the Start Copy/Resume button

Enable Bluetooth on your device during printer setup (Android, iOS only): The HP Smart app uses Bluetooth to help locate the printer and set up the wireless connection to the network.
Connect the printer to your network
Reset the wireless settings on the printer, and then connect to the local Wi-Fi network.
