Print on both sides of the paper with an HP Laser printer

Set up a two-sided (duplex) print job with an HP Laser printer using settings in the print driver.

Print on both sides of the paper (Windows)

Use HP printer software to set up a two-sided (duplex) printing job with an HP Laser printer.

To avoid page ordering issues, load enough paper into the paper tray to complete your print job.

CAUTION:
Do not print on both sides of envelopes, photo or glossy paper, or transparencies, or with paper lighter than 60 g/m² (16 lb) or heavier than 105 g/m² (28 lb) to prevent paper jams and printer damage.
Open the document you are printing, and then click File > Print.
Click Printer Properties, Preferences, or Printer Setup, depending on what displays.

The Properties window opens.

Determine if you want the pages to read as a booklet or a tablet.

From the Basic tab, select page orientation and layout options, and then select Long Edge for booklet layout or Short Edge for tablet layout from the Double-Sided Printing (Manual) options.
Click OK, and then click Print.

If the printer does not automatically print the other side, continue with these steps to manually reload the pages to print the other side.
Remove the printed pages from the output tray, and then reload them into the input tray printed side down and the top edge in.
Depending on your printer model, press Resume, Resume/Cancel, or OK to complete the print job.

Duplex settings might carry over to the next print job. To change back to one-sided printing, select None from the Double-Sided Printing menu.

Print on both sides of the paper (macOS)

Print a two-sided (duplex) document with an HP printer from a Mac.

CAUTION:

Do not print on both sides of envelopes, photo or glossy paper, or transparencies, or with paper lighter than 60 g/m² (16 lb) or heavier than 105 g/m² (28 lb) to prevent paper jams and printer damage.

Open the document, and then click File > Print.
Select your printer, and then click Show Details if the button displays.
From the print settings, look for a Double-sided or Two-sided print option. If the neither option is available, continue with these steps to print manually on both sides of the paper.
- Click Double-sided, and then select On for a book (long-edge binding) or On (Short Edge) for a tablet . Click Print. You are done.
- Select Two-sided, and then open Layout from the print options menu. Select Long-Edge binding for a book or Short-Edge binding for a tablet . Click Print. You are done.
If the Two-sided or Double-sided options are not available, select Paper Handling from the print options menu.
Select Odd Only from the Sheets to Print or Pages to Print drop-down menu.
From the Sheet Order or Page Order drop-down menu, select Reverse (for bottom-loading input trays) or Automatic (for top-loading input trays), and then click Print.

After the pages are done printing, remove any remaining paper from the input tray to prevent issues.
Remove the printed pages from the output tray, and then reload them into the input tray.
- For bottom-loading input trays, load the pages print-side up with the top edge towards the printer (book ) or bottom edge towards the printer (tablet ).
- For top-loading input trays, load the pages print-side down with the top edge towards the printer (book ) or bottom edge towards the printer (tablet ).
From the software, change the page settings for the second side.
1. From the Sheets to Print or Pages to Print drop-down menu, select Even only.
2. From the Sheet Order or Page Order drop-down menu, choose Normal (for bottom-loading input trays) or Automatic (for top-loading input trays).
Click Print to complete the two-sided print job.
