HP printers - Print with HP ePrint

HP ePrint is a secure, cloud-based service that lets you print using an email account with an active internet connection.

Note:

For printers released after Fall 2020, HP ePrint is not supported. As an alternative, Print Anywhere is available. For more information, go to Print Anywhere with the HP Smart App.

Find the printer email address

Find the printer ePrint email address on the printer control panel or through your HP account.

About this task

Make sure your printer is connected to your local network and has internet access. HP ePrint does not work if the only connection is with a USB cable.

Procedure

From the printer control panel: Click the HP ePrint icon or button , or navigate to Web Services Setup, Network Setup, or Wireless Settings to locate the Web Services menu. The ePrint email address displays on the Web Services screen. If prompted, follow the steps to enable Web Services or claim your printer.
From your HP account: Sign in to HP Smart (in English). The ePrint email address is located next to the name of your printer. If prompted, follow the steps to enable Web Services or claim your printer.

Print with ePrint

Send an ePrint job to your printer using the ePrint email address.

Procedure

From your email account, create a new email, or open the email you want to print, and then select the option to Forward.
In the To field, enter the printer ePrint email address.
In the Subject field, type a name for the email.
Attach up to 10 documents or photos, making sure the total email size is less than 10 MB.

Note:
Digitally signed, encrypted, or password-protected documents are not supported by HP ePrint.

What if my ePrint job did not print?

Make sure your printer can receive an ePrint job and the job meets the requirements.

Procedure

Make sure Web Services is on.
- Printers with touchscreens: Touch the HP ePrint icon , and then touch Settings. Or, navigate to the Web Services menu under Network Setup or Wireless Settings. If prompted, follow the instructions to turn on Web Services.
- Printers without touchscreens: Print a network configuration or self-test page to obtain the printer IP address, and then enter it in a web browser to open the Embedded Web Server. Click the Web Services tab to turn on the feature.
Make sure the email meets ePrint requirements.
- Enter only the printer email address in the To field. Multiple email addresses might cause the ePrint job to fail.
- Add text in the Subject field. A blank field can cause ePrint to fail.
- Attach no more than 10 files. The total size of the email, including attachments, cannot exceed 10 Mb/s.
Make sure the file attachment is compatible with HP ePrint.
- Photos must be a GIF, JPG, PNG, BMP, or TIFF file and have at least a resolution of 100 pixels.
- Documents must be a PDF, HTML, TXT, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel file. Digitally signed, encrypted, or password-protected documents are not supported.
By default, ePrint jobs print single-sided, and in the same color and orientation as the original. Documents print on either letter or A4 paper, and photos print on 101.6 mm x 152.4 mm (4 in x 6 in) paper.
Make sure the sending email address has permission to use your printer. Sign in to your HP Smart account. Under ePrint Access, select Open to Anyone so anyone can send ePrint jobs, or select Allowed, enter an email address, and then click Add.

Does my printer support HP ePrint?

If your printer released before Fall 2020, it might support HP ePrint as long as the printer is connected to an active internet connection and Web Services is enabled.

Note:

For printers released after Fall 2020, HP ePrint is not supported. As an alternative, Print Anywhere is available. For more information, go to Print Anywhere with the HP Smart App.

To confirm if your printer supports HP ePrint, look for an HP ePrint or Web Services icon on the printer. On most printers, you can also press the Information button , and then look for HP ePrint or Web Services listed on the printout.

Is an HP Smart account required to use HP ePrint?

No, an HP account is not required to use HP ePrint or the basic functions of your printer, such as setting up, scanning, and printing.

By signing up for an HP account (formerly HP Connected), you will have access to additional web services and settings, such as creating a custom ePrint email address, managing ePrint access, changing ePrint job preferences, and accessing your Instant Ink subscription, if applicable.

How do I change the email address for my HP website account?

The printer ePrint email address is different from the personal email address you used to set up your HP account. Open the HP account settings to change your personal email address.

Procedure

Sign in to HP Smart (in English), and then click the Account icon or the circle with your initials at the top of the page.
Select Settings, and then scroll down to Account information.
Select the Edit icon next to Primary email address.
Change the email address, and then click Save.
Repeat these steps to change the Username, if necessary.

How do I change the ePrint job settings?

Use your HP account (formerly HP Connected) to change the ePrint job settings.

Who can send an ePrint job to my printer?

By default, anyone who knows your printer's ePrint email address can print to your web-enabled printer. You can use your HP Smart account (formerly HP Connected) to block others from sending HP ePrint jobs to your printer or manage allowed senders.

Procedure

Sign in to HP Smart.
Select your printer, if it is not already selected.
Scroll down to ePrint Access, and then click ePrint Access.
Select an ePrint Access option to manage additional users:
- Open to Anyone (Default): Anyone one who has your HP ePrint email address can send print jobs.
- Blocked: User email addresses that are not authorized to send print jobs with your HP ePrint email address.
- Allowed: User email addresses authorized to send print jobs with your HP ePrint email address.
If you selected Blocked or Allowed, type the email address you want to add, and then click Add.
To remove an email address, click the Remove icon next to the email address.

How do I change my ePrint email address?

Use your HP Smart account to personalize your ePrint email address.

Inform any other authorized users of the new address.

How do I change the HP ePrint owner email address?

The HP ePrint owner email address is the personal email address you used to set up your HP account. Update the HP account email address to change the owner address.

Procedure

Sign in to HP Smart and then click the Account icon at the top of the webpage.
Select Settings, and then scroll down to Account information.
Select the Edit icon next to Primary email address.
Change the email address, and then click Save.
Repeat these steps to change the Username, if necessary.

Why can I not reuse my previous ePrint email address?

If you get a prompt that the custom ePrint email already exists, it might be assigned to the printer on a previous HP account or Web Services was turned off during the transfer.

Procedure

Sign in to the previous HP Smart (in English) account.

If you do not have access to the previous account, turn Web Services off then on, re-add the printer to the new HP account, and then create a different custom email address. In six months, the previous custom email address should be available to reuse.
Click Remove Printer next to the printer name.
Sign in to the new HP account.
Scroll down to ePrint Address, and then click it to expand the menu, if necessary.
Enter the custom name you want to reuse, and then click Submit.
If the address is still not available, create a different custom address.

Why does the info page list a customized ePrint email address?

The printer has already been added to an HP Smart account (formerly HP Connected).

If you purchased or were given a previously owned printer and the previous owner did not remove Web Services from the printer, the printer might still be associated with the previous HP Smart account. Turn Web Services off then on to print an info page with a new printer code.
