After storing computers for several months, the batteries may not work and cannot be recovered.
Batteries slowly drain, even when the computers are powered off. If left long enough, the batteries can reach a critical charge level beyond which they will no longer function and cannot be recharged (this is by design, for safety reasons).
NOTE: New computers arrive with the batteries in shipping mode to minimizes battery drain and allow the battery to remain viable for longer than if the computer is simply powered off. However, once the computer has been powered on it automatically exits shipping mode. Refer to the RESOLUTION for instructions for placing it back in shipping mode to allow for longer shelf life for the batteries (up to 3 months).
