Using the HP f150 Minicam

This document applies to the HP f150 Wireless Mini Camcorder.
The HP f150 mini camcorder can be used driving to work as a car cam, capturing meeting video at work, clipping on your bike handle bars for you noon time ride or clipping it on the kids pocket to capture the school play close up. The wide angle lens allows you to capture your memories in 720p HD video.
Camera Modes
Press the Power button twice to turn on the minicam.
Press the Mode button to switch between the two camera modes (Video, Photo) and the two wireless streaming modes (Direct, Cloud). Insert a microSD card before operating the minicam.
  • Video : Press the Mode button to select the Video Mode. Press the Record button to capture video. Press the Record button again to stop recording video.
  • Photo : Press the Mode button to select Photo Mode. Press the Record button to take still photos.
Streaming Modes
Press the Mode button to switch between modes. Before using the wireless modes, install PC APP on your PC and HP Ucam on your mobile device. For information on installing these apps, see HP document, Set up the HP f150 Wireless Minicam.
Direct Mode
Connect your minicam to your mobile device or PC directly for remote control, live view, managing albums, and camera & cloud setup.

Setup your minicam using the HP Ucam mobile app or PC APP for your PC. Each minicam has a unique Camera ID. (, U2-xxxxxx) A password is not required for first use. Use the Setup function in HP Ucam to enter a device password once you are connected. Use the following steps to wirelessly connect your minicam to your mobile device or PC.

  1. Press and hold the Power button until an audible beep sounds and the Video Mode and Direct Mode icons are illuminated on the rear of the minicam.
  2. Activate the WiFi connection on your PC.
  3. Wait for the Direct Mode LED to stop flashing before opening PC APP.

HP Ucam controls
Use the following controls with in HP Ucam to interact with the f150 minicam.
  • - Zoom In: Touch to zoom in on the photo or video.
  • - Zoom Out: Touch to zoom out on the photo or video.
  • - Invert Image: Touch to flip the photo or video vertically.
  • - Take Photos: Touch to take a photo.
  • - Capture Video: Touch to capture video.
  • - Loop Recording: Touch to begin a recording loop. The minicam stores the last 10 minutes of the recording.
  • - Talk to your f150: Touch the mic icon and speak into your mobile to the minicam. The minicam microphone is mute while you are speaking.
  • - Quad View: Touch to enable Quad View (view up to four cameras). Select 1 to return to single camera view.
PC APP controls
The functionality on the PC application is very similar to the mobile app.
Cloud Mode
Connect the minicam to a Cloud server via Access Point (AP) or Mobile Hotspot for Internet live video streaming or monitoring.

Before using Internet Cloud Mode, you must setup your minicam. Enter your wireless network and Ustream (Cloud AP/Cloud Service) parameters into the camera using HP Ucam. Use the following steps to set up Cloud Mode.
  1. Connect to your minicam wirelessly using Direct Mode. Follow the steps in the Direct Mode section to create a wireless connection and start HP Ucam.
  2. Touch the Set up icon and then scroll down to select Cloud Settings.
  3. Select your preferred WiFi network and enter its WiFi password, if any. The f150 Minicam has Internet access.
  4. Next, enter your Cloud Server (Ustream) information. Touch the New button then enter your Username (and/or email address) and password for the Cloud AP you wish to use, such as Ustream.
  5. When completed, touch Save to Camera. This will store your WiFi and Cloud AP information to the camera.
Connecting to a Cloud Server
Once you have setup your camera there are two ways to connect it to a Cloud server:
  • Direct Mode to Cloud Mode
    1. Power on the camera. It will go to Direct Mode.
    2. Connect your mobile to the minicam in Direct Mode.
    3. Start HP Ucam and then touch the Setup icon .
    4. Touch Camera to Cloud. The camera will switch from Direct Mode to Cloud Mode for live streaming to the Cloud.
  • Cloud Mode only
    1. Power on the camera and press the Mode button to select Cloud Mode. The Cloud LED will flash red while connecting to the Cloud.
    2. When the minicam has successfully connected to the Cloud, the LED will flash green, slowly.
    3. If the connection is unsuccessful the Status LED will flash fast-red. In that case, check your Cloud AP settings
Once your minicam is connected to the Cloud you may view your Live Video at: www.ustream.tv.
Live Streaming Internet broadcast using Ustream
The minicam can broadcast live streaming video to the Internet on Ustream. You must first establish an account on Ustream (in English) After you have established a Ustream account you will use the HP Ucam or PC APP on your PC or mobile device in Direct Connect mode to enter your Ustream account information into the minicam.
Anyone with a web browser will be able view your video streams. Mobile users can install the Ustream AP on their mobile devices.
Using your minicam with your PC
Keep your PC connected to the minicam via USB for additional USB applications. While connected, press the minicam Mode button to switch between Mass Storage mode and Webcam mode.
Mass Storage mode
Mass Storage mode is the default mode with the minicam connected to your PC. While in Mass Storage mode, the Status LED indicator is orange.
Transfer files to your PC
Use the following steps to transfer Video and Photo files from camera to your PC.
  1. Search for and select Computer or This PC, and then click to open the f150 drive icon.
  2. Click on Album in the f150 drive, and then select video/photo.
  3. Click on Save to PC.
Upload files to social media
Use the following steps to upload Videos/Photos to YouTube, Facebook or Youku.
  1. Search for and select Computer or This PC, and then click to open the f150 drive icon.
  2. Click on Setup in the f150 drive, and then select Upload Setting.
  3. Enter your Email/Username and Password, and then click Save to PC.
  4. Click on Album in the f150 drive, and then select video/photo.
  5. Click on Upload to begin uploading files.
Webcam mode
Press the minicam Mode button to go into Webcam mode. While in Webcam mode, the Status LED indicator is green.
To use the minicam as a webcam, exit the PC APP program. For video Instant Messaging (Skype or QQ), select U2 video device and U2 audio device.
