HP 450 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP 450 Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The end user requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The end user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return", then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

To view a video demonstrating the procedure for removing the hard disk drive, click here to view the HP Services Media Library and then click on Remove/Replace videos. On the new window, select Hard disk drive from the menu on the upper left hand side of the screen.

Hard disk drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to the product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the memory cover.
  3. Remove the hard disk drive cover.
  4. Using the black Mylar tab on the hard disk drive adapter cable, disconnect the hard disk drive adapter cable from its connector on the system board.
  5. Grasp the rubber tab on the hard disk drive and lift the edge of the hard disk drive.
  6. Remove the hard disk drive from the hard disk drive bay.
  7. Place the hard disk drive in a static-dissipative bag.

Hard disk drive replacement

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static-dissipative bag.
  2. Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay.
  3. Connect the hard disk drive adapter cable into its connector on the system board.
  4. Replace the hard disk drive cover.
  5. Replace the memory cover.
