HP 3115m Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Display Assembly

Precautions
  note:
The display assembly subcomponents are spared as individual components.
Before removing the display assembly subcomponents, follow these steps:
  1. Shut down the computer. If unsure whether the computer is Off or in Hibernation, turn the computer On, and then shut it down through the operating system.
  2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
  3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
Removing the display assembly subcomponents
  1. Release the wireless antenna cables (1) from the clips (2) and routing channel built into the base enclosure.
  2. Disconnect the display panel cable (3) from the system board.
  3. Release the display panel cable (4) from the clip built into the base enclosure.
  4. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0 × 5.7 screws (1) that secure the display assembly to the computer.
  5. Remove the display assembly (2).
  6. If it is necessary to replace the hinges:
    1. Remove the display assembly.
    2. Remove the display bezel.
    3. Remove the display panel.
    4. Remove the four Phillips PM2.0 × 4.2 (1) screws that secure the hinges to the display enclosure.
    5. Remove the hinges (2). The hinges are available in the Display Hinge Kit, spare part number 659499-001.
  7. If it is necessary to replace the display panel cable:
    1. Remove the display assembly.
    2. Remove the display bezel.
    3. Remove the display panel.
    4. Remove the left display hinge.
    5. Release the webcamera cable (1) from the display enclosure. (The webcamera cable is attached to the display enclosure with double-sided tape.)
    6. Release the display panel cable from the clip (2) built into the display enclosure near the left display hinge area.
    7. Remove the display panel cable (3). The display panel cable is available in the Display Cable Kit, spare part number 659498-001.
  8. If it is necessary to replace the wireless antenna cables and transceivers:
    1. Remove the display assembly.
    2. Remove the display bezel.
    3. Remove the display panel.
    4. Remove the display hinges.
    5. Remove the Phillips PM2.0 × 4.2 screw (1) that secures the right enclosure bracket to the display enclosure.
    6. Remove the left and right enclosure brackets (2). The left and right display enclosure brackets are included in the Display Hinge Kit, spare part number 659499-001.
    7. Release the wireless antenna cables (3) from the clips (4) and routing channels built into the display enclosure.
    8. Detach the WLAN transceivers (5) from the display enclosure. (The transceivers are attached to the display enclosure with double-sided tape.)
    9. Remove the wireless antenna cables and transceivers (6). The WLAN antenna are available in the Wireless Antenna Kit, spare part number 659492-001.
Removing the display assembly subcomponents
  1. Replace the wireless antenna cables and transceivers:
    1. Replace the wireless antenna cables and transceivers (6). The WLAN antenna are available in the Wireless Antenna Kit, spare part number 659492-001.
    2. Attach the WLAN transceivers (5) tp the display enclosure. (The transceivers are attached to the display enclosure with double-sided tape.)
    3. Connect the wireless antenna cables (3) to the clips (4) and routing channels built into the display enclosure.
    4. Replace the left and right enclosure brackets (2). The left and right display enclosure brackets are included in the Display Hinge Kit, spare part number 659499-001.
    5. Replace the Phillips PM2.0 × 4.2 screw (1) that secures the right enclosure bracket to the display enclosure.
    6. Replace the display hinges.
    7. Replace the display panel.
    8. Replace the display bezel.
    9. Replace the display assembly.
  2. Replace the display panel cable:
    1. Replace the display panel cable (3). The display panel cable is available in the Display Cable Kit, spare part number 659498-001.
    2. Connect the display panel cable to the clip (2) built into the display enclosure near the left display hinge area.
    3. Connect the webcamera cable (1) into the display enclosure. (The webcamera cable is attached to the display enclosure with double-sided tape.)
    4. Replace the display hinges.
    5. Replace the display panel.
    6. Replace the display bezel.
    7. Replace the display assembly.
  3. Replace the hinges:
    1. Replace the hinges (2). The hinges are available in the Display Hinge Kit, spare part number 659499-001.
    2. Replace the four Phillips PM2.0 × 4.2 (1) screws that secure the hinges to the display enclosure.
    3. Replace the display panel.
    4. Replace the display bezel.
    5. Replace the display assembly.
  4. Replace the display assembly (2).
  5. Replace the two Phillips PM2.0 × 5.7 screws (1) that secure the display assembly to the computer.
  6. Connect the display panel cable (4) to the clip built into the base enclosure.
  7. Reconnect the display panel cable (3) into the system board.
  8. Connect the wireless antenna cables (1) to the clips (2) and routing channel built into the base enclosure.
  9. Reconnect the power to the computer by first plugging the power cord into the AC outlet and then plugging the AC adapter to the computer.
  10. Reconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
  11. Turn On the computer.
