HP 620 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Pick Button Board

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the pick button board for the HP 620 Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-user should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdrivers.
Parts required

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the pick button board that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

The use of the Original Spare part is regulated by RoHS legislation. If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Modified Spare number, the Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part. If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Original Spare number, please order the Original Spare as the replacement part. In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Pick button board removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. On the bottom of the palm rest, use minimal force to lift the locking bar up on the pick button board ZIF connector and disconnect the pick button board ribbon cable from the TouchPad board.
      caution:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  3. Remove the 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the pick button board to the palm rest.
  4. Lift the pick button board off of its alignment pins and slide the pick button board out from underneath the tabs on the palm rest.
  5. Remove the pick button board and place it in a static dissipative bag.
Pick button board replacement
  1. Remove the pick button board from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Toe the pick button board underneath the tabs on palm rest and lower the pick button board onto its alignment pins.
  3. Replace the 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the pick button board to the palm rest.
  4. Insert the pick button board ribbon cable into the pick button board ZIF connector on the TouchPad board.
      caution:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  5. Press the locking bar down to lock the pick button board ribbon cable in the pick button board ZIF connector on the TouchPad board.
