Compaq Evo n800v Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing Hard Disk Drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the Compaq Evo n800v Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
Small, flat-bladed screwdriver or a flat-bladed alignment tool
Parts required

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard disk drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the black 4 mm Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive.
  3. Use a flat-bladed tool to separate the hard disk drive from the base enclosure.
  4. Pull the hard disk drive out of the bay and remove.
  5. Remove the two black 4 mm Phillips-head screws that secure the drive bezel to the hard disk drive.
  6. Pull the sides of the drive bezel out to release the alignment pins and slide the drive bezel off the hard disk drive.
  7. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Hard disk drive replacement
  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Slide the drive bezel onto the hard disk drive and align the alignment pins on the drive with the alignment holes on the drive bezel.
  3. Replace the two black 4 mm Phillips-head screws that secure the drive bezel to the hard disk drive.
  4. Turn the notebook right side up.
  5. Slide the hard disk drive into the bay and push it in until the connector is seated.
  6. Turn the notebook upside down.
  7. Replace the black 4 mm Phillips-head screw.
