HP Designjet Printers - HP Designjet Printer Driver v 3.1 (HPGL/2 and RTL) for Microsoft (R) Windows 3.1x and Windows 95/98, Overview

Description
This driver offer a vector and raster graphics printing solution for HP DesignJet printers.
HP DesignJet Printer Driver v 3.1 (HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL) is for use with Microsoft (R) Windows 3.1x, Windows 95, and Windows 98 operating systems.
Features
Following are the most outstanding features of the HP DesignJet Printer Driver v 3.1:
  • SAVE PAPER allows the user to save paper rotating or moving the plot into the page. This functionality exists in the printer with the names: Rotate = degrees and Size = Inked Area.
  • AUTO ROTATE will automatically rotate a vector plot by 90 degrees, providing that it will save media and will fit on the available media. The margins in the printer are swapped (that is, the top and bottom margins before the rotation becomes the right and left margins).
  • With INKED AREA, the printer interacts with the driver and saves wasted media by using a page size equal to the inked area plus the margins. INKED AREA will only take effect when roll paper source is used.
  • ZOOMSMART is the scaling feature. ZOOMSMART enables all the applications to produce large-format output. ZOOMSMART provides the following functionality: Isotropic Fit to this Page: and Use this scaling factor.
  • With LAYOUT VIEW, you can see, graphically, the printable area of the paper chosen in the Paper size property page and check the effect of the ZOOMSMART features.
  • With PRINT PREVIEW, you can see what is going to be printed without wasting paper.
  • RESOLUTION ENHANCEMENT (RT) enables the printer to use the RET (Resolution Enhancement technology), which improves the quality of line drawings by positioning the pixels with 600 dpi accuracy. Even the ink dots on paper are larger; this is the 600 dpi addressable resolution.
  • The DISABLE CUTTER FEATURE enables the user to disable the roll cutter after printing.
  • PROCESS DOCUMENT in computer option ensures that the printer will always print. This process is carried out by performing all the rasterization processes in the host and only sending raster data to the printer. This mode overcomes the Out of Memory problems for larger than average files.
  • The BITMAP CACHE allows for fast text output, providing up to a 10x improvement in performance. This is a feature of the new HP DesignJet printers that have bitmap cache for fonts.
  • PJL commands are used to send settings selected in the driver. This is important since PJL commands have priority over the settings of the front panel. As a result, the settings chosen in the driver are the settings used, and the printer front panel is ignored.
  • HALFTONING options allow multiple print modes and help improve the print quality. Three halftone algorithms are implemented in the driver: Scatter, Pattern, and Cluster.
  • The driver has the ability to GRAYSCALE color plots. When this option is selected, a specific Color Control dialog box to select the Halftoning and the Lightness settings appears. Lightness is especially useful for scanned images. This is the default setting for monochrome printers.
  • Drawing might be printed in BLACK AND WHITE, which converts all colors except white to black so that there are no grayscales.
  • All the settings that can be chosen in the driver (Paper Size, Orientation, Color Settings, Quality, Copies, and so on) can be saved in a file with a user configuration name.
  • Because a large number of different paper sizes (up to 35) can be selected in an HP DesignJet printer, the driver filters them by allowing the user to select a standard.
  • The ONLINE HELP SYSTEM is context-sensitive and provides information about the current screen and topics. A hint line also appears in the driver's dialog box in a Windows 3.11 environment, providing information about the available options. In Windows 95and Windows 98, this hint line is substituted by the use of the "What is this" button.
