Sprout by HP - How to Remove the Background with Sprout by HP

Video overview

View the following video before using the steps in this article.
note:
For best quality on dial-up connections, wait until the video has fully loaded before viewing.

Removing the background from an image

If your image has a background, you can remove the background. Removing the background works best when the background is uniform and when there is a clear visual separation of foreground and background.
For example, removing the blue sky behind a city skyline works better than removing foliage from behind someone wearing green.
Use the following steps:
  1. Select the image and move it to the mat. Tap to select the image so a blue outline appears. (A red outline means the image is pinned and locked.)

  2. In the menu on the right, tap Edit, and then tap Background.

You will see a before and after preview on the monitor.

  3. The Keep tool on the left is automatically selected. Use your finger to mark which areas you want to keep. As you move your finger, blue lines appear on the canvas.
    note:
Tap Magnify to zoom in and out and pan the selected object for more control over what areas you select. Tap Magnify again to turn off zoom. The preview does not update when using Magnify.

  4. To mark what background to remove, tap the Remove tool. Run your finger on the background outside the image (or within an enclosed background space) to mark the area you want removed. As you move your finger, red lines appear on the canvas and the preview updates automatically.

  5. After marking the areas to remove and keep, review the before and after preview to ensure the background is removed as desired.

  8. To save the edited image as a project, touch to select it, open the More menu, and touch Save. Type in a project name and tap Save.
