HP Deskjet 5550 Series Printers - Black Vertical Streaks Appear at the Bottom of the Printout

Information

If a small sized media (4x6 or Hagaki) is loaded, the printer will select that media to print, even if the document being printed is larger. This will cause ink to be sprayed onto the pivot when it reaches the end of the media during printing.
The ink on the pivot will result in streaking on the back of full sized media sheets sent through the printer.

Instructions

To prevent streaking, the pivot ribs will need to be cleaned, follow the instructions below to do this.
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Disconnect the printer from the power, by removing the power supply at the back of the printer.
  3. Lift the printer access door.
  4. Using a moistened cotton swab clean the pivot ribs as indicated by the yellow arrows in Figure 1 below.
Figure : Cleaning the pivot ribs
  5. After cleaning, close the access door, reconnect the power cable and turn the printer on.
  6. Try printing, the issue with streaking on the backside of media should now be free from streaking.
