HP Smart Tank Printers - Refill the ink tanks
Refill ink in one or more ink tanks of your HP Smart Tank 210, 520, 540, 580, 590, 5000, or 5100 printer when the ink level is low.
Purchase a new ink bottle
Use genuine HP ink bottles for your printer.
Purchase genuine replacement ink bottles from local retail stores or from HP at www.hp.com/go/suresupply.

Refill ink tanks
Refill the ink tanks when the printer is low on ink.
Take note of the following before you begin.
Note:

Product service or repairs required as a result of filling the ink tanks improperly and/or using non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty.

Keep the ink bottles beyond the reach of children.

Do not drink or place in mouth.

Open the ink bottles only when you plan to fill the ink tanks.

Do not tilt, shake, or squeeze the ink bottle when it is open to prevent ink leaks.

Store the ink bottles in a cool, dark place.

Open the front door.

Open the cap on the ink tank you want to fill.

Open the ink bottle.

If your ink bottles have a colored twist-cap, twist open the cap.

If your ink bottles have a white flip-cap, flip open the top of the cap.
(If this is a new bottle, first twist open the cap and remove the seal. Replace and tighten the cap on the bottle, and then flip open the cap.)

Match the color of the bottle with the tank.
Place the bottle upside down on the tank and click into place. Wait for the ink to fill the tank.
Note:-
If the ink does not drain immediately, remove the bottle and properly reinsert onto the tank.

Do not squeeze the bottle when filling ink.

If there is ink left in the bottle, close the bottle properly and store upright in a cool, dark place. For bottles with a colored twist-cap, replace the cap by firmly pushing it back onto the bottle.

Close the tank cap firmly.

Close the front door of the printer.
