Notice:: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the release date. The information in this document is subject to change without notice.

Release date : 31-Oct-2014

Last updated : 31-Oct-2014

Potential Security Impact:
Before you install or replace an add-on card in an HP Workstation, you should discharge the electric charge stored in the system board or power supply. Even though you remove the power cord, the system has a leftover charge. Discharging eliminates the possibility of a leftover charge causing system board failure.

Details
This document provides instructions to discharge the electric charge when you install or replace the add-on card in an HP workstation.
1. Remove the AC power cord from the system.
2. With the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the front of the computer multiple times until the power LED does not blink. You can also wait a few minutes.
NOTE
Ground yourself. Whenever you are working with computer components, you should ensure that you are properly grounded. This will reduce the likelihood of electrostatic damage to components. If possible, connect an electrostatic wrist strap to the bare metal of your computer's case. If you don't have a wrist strap, you can discharge any built-up static charge by touching a metal water tap. Make sure that you are wearing rubber-soled shoes while working in the computer.

3. Remove the side access panel.
4. Refer to Maintenance and Service Guide and install or replace the add-on card.
