HP DesignJet Printers - Resolving Compatibility Issues with OS X v10.10

This document is for all HP DesignJet printers and computers with OS X v10.10 (Yosemite).
This document discusses two important compatibility issues between OS X v10.10 (Yosemite) and HP DesignJet printers, including bi-directional printing and an error message indicating a filter crash.

Upgrade drivers for bi-directional printing

With OS X v10.10 (Yosemite), you cannot print bi-directionally for the Designjet T120/T520, Designjet T920/T1500/ T2500, and Designjet T3500.
To solve the issue, you must upgrade the driver to version 30.0. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.

A filter crash error message displays

When using PostScript drivers where Custom paper size and Landscape orientation are both selected, an error message displays indicating a filter crashed, and the print job stops.
note:
Adobe applications are NOT affected (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).

Workaround methods

When a filter crash error message displays, you have a choice of three methods for overcoming the issue.
  • Print in portrait mode. Create a Custom paper setting, interchange the width and length, then select Portrait orientation.
  • Generate a PDF file with the desired application, or export as a PDF file. Next, print the PDF file with the required paper and orientation using an Adobe application such as Adobe Reader XI.
  • Use a Raster driver when available. This does not apply to all printers as not all printers have both PostScript and Raster drivers in OS X v10.10 (Yosemite). Check the list of affected printers below to see if your printer has a Raster driver available. If it does, update your driver at HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
