This document pertains to HP notebook computers with Windows 8.
This document contains information about setting up your notebook and configuring Windows 8 for the first time.
note:Most notebooks are smaller than typical monitors and might need a stand or small platform to raise it to the height and angle described above.
note:Cables can be unsightly and should be hidden from view, such as by routing them behind the back of the desk or between the desk and a wall.
note:Some AC power adapters do not have an LED.
caution:To avoid damaging the data on the computer, do not restart your computer during the setup process.
note:During the setup process, Windows 8 might take a long time to process an item without visual feedback on the screen to indicate progress. This is normal.
note:The computer name cannot contain spaces for special characters.
note:If your network is not listed or if you are unable to connect to the internet click Skip this step to continue without a wireless connection to set it up later.
note:Signing in with your Microsoft account makes setting up apps much simpler and you can take advantage of social media benefits. For more information see Learning How to Use Windows 8 Features and Apps (in English).
