HP EliteBook 8560p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Optical Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the optical drive for the HP EliteBook 8560p Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver.

Optical drive removal

Observe all precautions when removing and replacing components.

The video depicts a specific configuration of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to all configurations of the notebook.
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the bottom cover.
  3. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw (identified with an optical drive lock icon) that secures the optical drive to the notebook.
  4. Using a small, non-metallic tool, press on the metal tab (identified with an optical drive eject icon) on the rear edge of optical drive to free the optical drive from its connector on the system board.
  5. Remove the optical drive from the optical drive bay.

Optical drive replacement

  1. Insert the optical drive into the optical drive bay until the tray door bezel is flush with the side of the base enclosure.
  2. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw (identified with an optical drive lock icon) that secures the optical drive to the notebook.
  3. Replace the bottom cover.
