HP EliteBook 8560p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Wireless LAN Module

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the wireless LAN module for the HP EliteBook 8560p Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

  • Smooth jaw, bent-tipped needle nose pliers (optional)
  • Small, smooth-tipped needle nose pliers (optional)
  • Tweezers
  • Small, Phillips-head (P0) screwdriver

Wireless LAN module removal

Observe all precautions when removing and replacing components.
note:
The video depicts a specific configuration of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to all configurations of the notebook.
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the bottom cover.
  3. Carefully disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the wireless LAN module by grasping the connectors with a small pair of needle nose pliers or tweezers.
    note:
    Make careful note of which wireless antenna cable is connected to each terminal on the wireless LAN module for later replacement.
      caution:
    Use care when disconnecting the wireless antenna cables from the wireless LAN module. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
  4. Remove the two 3-mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the wireless LAN module to the system board and allow it to release to the spring tension position.
  5. Grasp the wireless LAN module by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  6. Place the wireless LAN module in a static dissipative bag.

Wireless LAN module replacement

  1. Grasp the wireless LAN module by the edges and remove it from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Align the notch in the wireless LAN module with the key in the wireless LAN module slot on the system board.
  3. At an angle, gently insert the wireless LAN module into its slot on the system board.
  4. Press the wireless LAN module down and replace the two 3-mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the wireless LAN module to the system board.
  5. Reconnect the wireless antenna cables to the wireless LAN module.
      caution:
    Use care when connecting the wireless antenna cables to the wireless LAN module. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
  6. Replace the bottom cover.
