HP Color LaserJet CP3505 Printer Series - Replace the Formatter

To view a video demonstrating the procedure for removing the part click here to access the Services Media Library (www.hp.com/go/sml). Select Printers and Multifunction under the Product category, select HP Color LaserJet Printers under the Product family, and then select the printer model under the product series category.

Formatter replacement

  warning:
Do not replace the formatter and the DC controller at the same time. Install the replacement formatter and then turn the power on. After the printer initializes, turn the power off and install the replacement DC controller.
  caution:
PCAs are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Look for the ESD reminder when removing PCAs. Always perform service work at an ESD-protected workstation or mat. If an ESD workstation or mat is not available, ground yourself by touching the sheet-metal chassis before touching an ESD-sensitive part.
Protect the ESD-sensitive parts by placing them in ESD pouches when they are out of the printer.
  1. Before you install a replacement formatter, open the service menu and record the following values:
    • Mono cycle count
    • Color cycle count
    • Refurbish cycle count
    • Serial number
    • Service ID
  2. Push in on the two black locking levers.
  3. Pull the formatter cage away from the printer to remove it.
  4. Open the service menu and transfer the values from step 1 to the replacement formatter.
  5. When you install a replacement formatter, you must calibrate the printer.
note:
After replacing the formatter cage, make sure that the control panel is functioning. If the printer fans and motors are operating correctly but the control panel is not, turn the power off, and then remove the formatter cage and reinstall it. You might have to repeat this step several times to seat the formatter correctly.
