Compaq tc1000 Tablet PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive (HDD) for the Compaq tc1000 Tablet PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
Small, Phillips-head P0 screwdriver

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard disk drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the two 4 mm Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive cover.
  3. Use your finger to lift the inside edge of the hard disk drive cover and remove it.
  4. Grasp the plastic tab and pull to disengage the drive from the system board connector.
  5. Lift the drive and remove it.
  6. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Hard disk drive replacement
  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Insert the drive into the bay and slide it toward the center of the tablet PC until the connector is seated.
  3. Tuck the plastic tab down into the enclosure.
  4. Toe the hard disk drive cover into the tablet PC.
  5. Replace the two 4 mm Phillips-head screws.
