Setting up the Hardware for HP Officejet 4500 (G510) All-in-One Printer Series

1. Remove the tape and cardboard packaging frominside and around the product.
2. Attach the paper tray by inserting the pegs into the correct slots on the front of the product.

3. Pull out and unfold the tray extender.

1. Connect the power cord to the back of the product.
2. Connect the power cord to the power supply.
3. Connect the power cord to the electrical outlet.

1. On the product control panel, press Setup ().
2. Press the Left () or Right () Arrow button to select Basic Settings, and then press OK.
3. Press the Left () or Right () Arrow button to select Set Language, and then press OK.
4. Use the numeric keypad to enter the two-digit code for the language, and then press 1 to confirm the selection.
5. Press the Left () or Right () Arrow button to select Set Location, and then press OK.
6. Press the Left () or Right () Arrow button to select the correct country/region, and then press OK.
7. Press 1 to confirm the selection.

1. On the product control panel, press Setup ().
2. Press the Left () or Right () Arrow button to select Basic Settings, and then press OK.
3. Press the Left () or Right () Arrow button to select Date and Time, and then press OK.
4. After Enter date displays on the control panel, use the keypad on the control panel to type the date in the correct two-digit format, MM-DD-YY (01-01-07). After entering the date, press OK.
5. After Enter time displays on the control panel, use the keypad on the control panel to type the time in the correct format, HH:MM (01:45), and then use the Right () Arrow button to set AM or PM. After entering the time, press OK.

note:

Load plain, white paper. Special media or colored paper will cause the cartridge alignment step to fail.

1. Slide the paper-width guide to its outermost position.
2. Insert the stack of paper print-side down along the right side of the paper tray.
   Make sure that thestack of paper aligns with the right and back edges of the tray, and fits below the line marking in the tray.

3. Slide the paper-width guide inward until it stops at the edge of the stack of paper.

1. Remove the new cartridges from their packaging. Be careful to touch only the black plastic.
2. Gently remove the plastic tape by pulling the pink pull tab.

   1. Copper-colored contacts
   2. Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)
   3. Ink nozzles under tape

     caution:

   Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles.Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electricalconnections.

3. Open the front access door.The carriage moves to the far right side of the product.

4. Hold the new cartridge so the HP logo is facing up, slide it at a slight upward angle into the empty slot, and push it until it snaps into place.
   • To install a tri-color cartridge, insert it into the left slot.
   • To install a black cartridge, insert it into the right slot.

5. Close the front access door.

note:

The cartridge alignment process starts automatically when you install new cartridges.

1. Make sure youhave loaded plain, white paper in the main tray.
2. On the product control panel, press Setup ().
3. Press the Left () or Right () Arrow button to select Tools, and then press OK.
4. Press the Left () or Right () Arrow button to select Align Cartridge, and then press OK. The alignment page prints.
5. After the alignment page prints, place the alignment page print-side down on the scanner glass.

6. Close the scanner lid.
7. Press OK to scan the alignment page and complete the cartridge alignment.
8. Discard or recycle the alignment page.
