HP LaserJet P4015 and P4515 Printer Series - How to Change the Network Link Speed

Information

Indications that the network link speed may need to be changed manually because it is incorrect include the following:
  • The printer, when connected via network connection does not print any jobs sent to it.
  • When jobs are sent to it, not only do the jobs not print but there are no messages on the control panel to indicate the printer received the jobs. The printer stays at READY.
  • When connected directly (USB or parallel) to a PC the printer prints fine.
  • The information pages printed out from the control panel print out correctly and the network information is shown on these pages. Additionally, the printer is correctly configured to match these settings.
  • The LEDs on the printer where the network cable connects to the printer are off. This is the RJ45 connector the LAN cable connects to on the printer. With a correct network connection they should be on.
If the symptoms listed above are occurring then the network link speed on the printer is incorrect and needs to be changed to match what the network is configured for.

Details

The print server in the printer uses auto-negotiation to configure itself with the highest link speed and communication mode allowed. If auto-negotiation fails, either 100TX HALF or 10TX HALF is set, depending on the detected link speed of the hub/switch port the printer is connected to. ( Note that a 1000T half-duplex selection is not supported). Before manually changing the link speed first determine what the correct link speed of your network is.
To change the link speed from the control panel of the printer perform the following:
  1. Select Menu.
  2. Select Configure Device.
  3. Select I/O - Embedded Jet direct Menu.
  4. Select Link Speed.
  5. Select the speed, which depends on the configuration or speed of the network. These speeds include the following:
    • 10T HALF: 10 Mbps, half-duplex operation
    • 10T FULL: 10 Mbps, full-duplex operation
    • 100TX HALF: 100 Mbps, half-duplex operation
    • 100TX FULL: 100 Mbps, full-duplex operation
    • 100TX AUTO: Limits auto-negotiation to a maximum link speed of 100 Mbps
    • 1000TX FULL: 1000 Mbps, full-duplex operation
