HP LaserJet 3050/3052/3055/3390/3392 All-in-One Printers - Message "Unable to initialize" occurs performing a Scan from PC in Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP 1)

Issue
An "Unable to initialize" message is displayed when trying to perform a scan from a PC that has Microsoft Windows Vista with SP1 installed.
Solution
In Microsoft Windows Vista SP1, even if the all-in-one full solution software is installed successfully, scanning from computer will not work. In order to scan a document from the computer successfully, the following steps should be followed:
  1. Click Start, and go to All Programs.
  2. Select the HP folder, and go to the HP LaserJet 3050, 3052, 3055, 3390, 3392 folder.
  3. Under the drop-down menu, right-click Scan, select Sent to, and then click Desktop (create shortcut).
  4. Go to the desktop, right-click the scan shortcut icon, and select Properties.
  5. In the Properties window, click the Compatibility tab, and select (checkmark) the Run this program as an administrator option.
  6. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  7. Run the HP scan software.
    You will be prompted for Administrator rights in order to Allow or Block the scanner process.
  8. Select Allow, it will start the scanning process and the document will be scanned successfully.
  9. If the issue persists, uninstall the software completely from the computer, turn off firewall and anti-virus. Reinstall the full solution software, and then follow steps 1 to 8 again.
  note:
In order to perform the previous steps, the user account should have Administrator rights.
