HP Scanjet Products - Cropping a Scanned image

Introduction

This document explains how to crop images. It is sometimes desirable to select only a portion of an image and remove the rest. This process is called cropping. Cropping can be performed during the scan preview, or from HP Image Editor.

Cropping an image in the scan preview

In the scan preview you can select a portion of the preview to saved as the final scan.
A dotted line box with eight small black boxes on the corners, and on the sides surrounds the area that is currently selected. Portions of the preview outside of the dotted lines will not be part of the final scan. This box can be manually resized by clicking and holding one of the eight smaller boxes, and then dragging to the desired size. After the area you wish is selected, click Accept.

Cropping an image using the HP Image Editor

The HP Image Editor is a component of the HP Photo and Imaging Gallery software.

Opening the Image Editor

  1. Open the HP Director software.
    • Double-click the HP Director icon located on the Windows Desktop. The HP Director window opens.
    • Click Start, Programs (All Programs in Windows XP), Hewlett-Packard, the HP Digital Imaging product in use, and then HP Photo and Imaging Director. The HP Director window opens.
  2. Click View and Print. The HP Photo and Imaging Gallery window opens.
    This program is the interface between images and the available functions of the product software, such as Viewing, Sending, Editing and Printing.
  3. Click the thumbnail of the image to be edited. This highlights the thumbnail image in blue.
  4. Click the Image Editor icon at the top of the screen or double-click the desired image. The HP Image Editor window opens.

Cropping an Image in HP Image Editor

  1. Point to the image border or selection handle. When the pointer changes to a double-arrow, press and hold the left-mouse button. Drag the border or handle to the desired size.
  2. Click the Crop Icon or click Edit, and then Crop to take away the excess image.
