HP Officejet 4215 and 4250 All-in-One Printer Series - Setting up the All-in-One (Hardware)


This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
Remarque :
HP Officejet 4200 series All-in-One products can operate as fully functional fax and copy machines directly out of the box, without installing any software.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:
  • Unpack and assemble the All-in-One
  • Load plain white paper
  • Turn the All-in-One on
  • Set the language and country/region
  • Install the cartridges
  • Set date and time
  • Enter fax header information
  • Other fax settings you might need

Setting up the All-in-One

Follow these steps in order.

Step one: Unpack and assemble the All-in-One

  1. Remove tape and carboard packaging from outside and inside the product, and then place it onto a flat level surface near telephone and power outlets.
  2. Unfold all three paper trays, and then pull out any cardboard packaging.

  3. Attach the control panel overlay, if needed: Insert the overlay tabs into the slots on top of the product and align the overlay over the buttons. Press the overlay down firmly on both front corners until it snaps securely in place.

  4. Connect the power cord to the All-in-One and external power supply.

  5. Connect the supplied (two-wire) telephone cord into the 1-Line jack on the back of the product, and then connect the other end to a telephone jack.

    The 2-ext jack is for connecting accessories (answering machine, computer, phone, etc.) If you are connecting accessories, make the connections in the following order:
    • Wall outlet to a DSL filter (if needed)
    • DSL filter to the all-in-one
    • All-in-one to an answering machine
    • Answering machine to a computer
    • Computer to a phone

Step two: Load plain white paper

  1. Slide the paper width adjuster fully to the left.
  2. Load plain white letter or A4 paper into the paper tray. Push it forward just until it stops. If you force too far forward, it might cause a paper jam.

  3. Slide the paper width guide in until it rests against the paper. Make sure the paper lies flat in the paper tray.

Step three: Turn the All-in-One on

Step four: Set the language and country/region

  1. When the display prompts you, enter the code for your language, and then press OK.
  2. Enter the code for your country/region, and then press OK.

Step five: Install the cartridges

  1. With the product still turned on, open the cartridge access door on the right side.
  2. Remove the bright pink tape from the cartridges.
    Do not touch the gold-colored contacts or re-tape the cartridges.

  3. Slide each cartridge into the carriage at a slight upward angle, and then press firmly until it snaps into place
    • Install the black cartridge on the right side.
    • Install the color cartridge on the left side.

  4. Close the cartridge access door.
  5. When prompted, press OK to print an alignment page
  6. Remove the alignment page, load it face down in the document feeder tray between the paper width guides, and then press OK.

    When Alignment Complete appears on the front panel display, the alignment process is finished.

Step six: Set date and time

Enter the date and time by pressing Setup, 3 , and then 1. Enter the time and date information from the numerical keypad.

Step seven: Enter fax header information

Enter the fax header information by using pressing Setup, 3 , and then 2. Enter the heading name and fax phone number information from the numerical keypad.
For alpha characters, press a number key repeatedly to scroll through the different uppercase and lowercase characters. Use the right and left arrow buttons to move through the name or number that is being created. The all-in-one will now send and receive faxes and perform copies in black and in color.

Other fax setting your might need

The information below includes some steps you might need, depending on your configuration plan. For more information, see the User Guide.

Rings to answer

If the product is connected to a line that will receive voice calls, the Rings to answer will need to be changed. The exception to this would be if a distinctive ringing service has been purchased. The Rings to answer will be set at one (1) by default. Follow the steps below to change the setting.
  1. Press the Setup button, and then press 3 on the keypad to enter the Basic Fax Setup menu.
  2. Press 3 on the keypad to enter the Rings to Answer selection mode.
  3. Select a number between 1 and 6, and then press OK. For a shared line, this value is usually set to 6.

Ring pattern (distinctive ring)

If you subscribe to a Distinctive Ring service from your telephone company, use the following steps to set Distinctive Ring using the menus on the control panel of the product.

Step one: Turn on Auto Answer

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the right arrow (>) or the left arrow (<) until Basic Fax Setup displays.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Press the right arrow (>) or the left arrow (<) until Auto Answer displays.
  5. Press Enter.
  6. Press the right arrow (>) or the Left Arrow (<) until On displays.
  7. Press Enter.

Step two: Change the Answer Ring Pattern setting to match the ring pattern of your phone service

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the right arrow (>) or the left arrow (<) until Advanced Fax Setup displays.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Press the right arrow (>) or the left arrow (<) until Answer Ring Pattern displays.
  5. Press Enter.
  6. Press the right arrow (>) or the left arrow (<) until the desired ring pattern displays.
    • Single rings – The fax machine answers after a single ring.
    • Double rings – The fax machine answers after a double ring.
    • Triple rings – The fax machine answers after a triple ring.
    • Double and triple – The fax machine answers after a double and triple ring.
    • All rings – The fax machine answers any ring. This is the default when not using Distinctive Ring.
  7. Press Enter.
