HP Deskjet 5000 Series Printers - Setting Up the Product (Hardware)

Introduction

This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.

Set up the product

Follow these steps in order.

Step one: Check the contents of the box

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.

Step two: Remove packing material

Remove all tape and protective film from the lid and from the front and back of the product.

Step three: Install the optional Two Sided Printing Accessory (duplexer)

If the product shipped with the Two Sided Printing Accessory (duplexer), continue with the following steps.
If the product did not ship with the duplexer, skip to the 'Connect the power cord and adapter' section in this document.

Press the two release buttons in the middle of the product on the rear access door, and then remove the door.

Insert the duplexer into the back of the printer.

Step four: Connect the power cord and turn the product on

Insert the rectangular end of the power cord into the power outlet on the back of the product.
Insert the other end of the cord into an electrical outlet.

Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

Step five: Load paper

Slide the paper adjuster out as far as it will go.
Push up the OUT tray.

Load a small stack of paper into the IN tray.
Slide the paper adjusters snugly against the edges of the paper.
Push the OUT tray down.

Step six: Install the cartridges

Follow these steps to install the cartridges.

Make sure the product is on. Open the top cover. Wait until the carriage moves to the center of the product and is idle and silent. Open the cartridge latch. If you are replacing the cartridge, slide the old cartridge out of its slot.	Figure : Open the product and remove the old cartridge
Remove a new cartridge from its packaging, and then carefully remove the plastic tape. Hold the cartridge so that the copper strip is on the bottom. Attention : Do not touch the cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts. Touching these parts will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Do not remove the copper strips. They are required electrical contacts.	Figure : Remove the protective tape
Slide the cartridge firmly into the cradle. Make sure that the copper contacts of the cartridge meet the copper contacts inside the printer. Press down on the cartridge latch until it snaps closed. Close the top cover.	Figure : Insert the new cartridge
