HP DeskJet 2600 Printers - First Time Printer Setup

1. Remove the printer from the box.
2. Remove all tape and package materials from the outside of the printer.
3. Lower the output tray, reach inside the printer, and then grasp the handle and lower the ink cartridge access door to open it.
   
4. Remove all tape and package materials from inside the printer.
   
5. Make sure you remove all hardware and materials from the box before discarding or recycling the box and package materials.

Do not connect a USB cable at this time. The connection to the computer is established during software installation.

1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.
   
2. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
   The carriage moves to the center of the printer.
3. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

1. Remove one of the ink cartridges from its package. Be careful to only touch the black plastic on the ink cartridge.
   
2. Remove the plastic tape.

   Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Do not replace the protective tape on the contacts. Handling these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

   
3. Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the contacts toward the printer, insert the ink cartridge into its slot, and then gently push the ink cartridge until it snaps into place.

   Install the color ink cartridge on the left and the black ink cartridge on the right.

   
4. Repeat these steps to install the other ink cartridge.
5. Close the ink cartridge access door, and then close the output tray.
   

1. Raise the input tray.
   
2. Slide the paper width guide all the way to the left.
   
3. Load a stack of plain white paper into the input tray.
   
4. Slide the paper width guide to the right until it rests at the edge of the paper.
   
5. Lower the output tray, and then pull out the tray extender.

For print quality purposes, the printer prints an alignment page after five pages are printed. Follow the instructions on the alignment page to complete the ink cartridge alignment.
