HP Officejet Printers - Setting Up the Printer Hardware

1. Remove the printer from the box.
2. Remove all tape and packing materials from the outside of the printer.

3. Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then gently lift up to open the cartridge access door.

4. Remove all tape and packing materials from inside the printer, including from the carriage, paper tray, and scanner bed.

5. Close the cartridge access door.

6. Discard or recycle the packing materials.

1. Lift the output tray.

2. Grasp the handle on the input tray, and then pull out the tray.

3. Slide out the paper width guides as far as possible.

4. Insert plain white paper in the paper tray.

   Do not fill the paper higher than the yellow, dotted lines on the sides of the paper tray.

5. Slide in the paper width guides until they rest against the edge of the stack of paper.
6. Push the tray into the printer until it locks in place.

7. Lower the output tray, pull out the tray extender, and then lift the paper catch.

Do not connect a USB cable at this time. The printer prompts you to connect the USB during the software installation.

1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
2. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

3. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
4. On the printer control panel, touch your preferred language, and then touch Continue to confirm your choice.
5. Touch the display to select your specific country/region, and then touch Continue Setup.
6. Scroll the display to set the month, day, and year.
7. Scroll the display to set the time, and then touch Continue.
8. Touch the Settings icon to select a 24-hour format (optional).
9. Touch Continue.

Failure to install the SETUP cartridges that came with the printer causes a cartridge error.

1. Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then gently lift up to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the cartridge access area. Wait several seconds until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.

2. Remove a cartridge from its package, and then pull the orange pull-tab straight back.

   Make sure that you remove the orange pull-tab and plastic wrap completely before you remove the orange cap in the next step. Otherwise, ink might leak from the cartridge. When you remove the plastic wrap, the paper label on the top of the cartridge tears slightly, which is necessary to properly vent the cartridge.

3. Hold the cartridge by its sides, and then twist the protective orange cap counter-clockwise to snap it off the cartridge.

   Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

4. Turn the cartridge so that the cartridge contacts face downward, and then match the label color with the color dot on the carriage.
5. Slide the cartridge into its slot, and then gently press the cartridge down until it clicks into place.

6. Repeat these steps to install all the new cartridges.
7. Close the cartridge access door.

8. Wait for the printer to align the cartridges. After the alignment is complete, the printer prints an alignment page.
