Prepare for installation before setting up the printer on a wireless network.
  1. To use your printer on a wireless network, you need the following items:
    • A compatible computer or mobile device connected to your wireless network
    • Internet access

  2. Make sure the router is turned on.
  3. If you are connecting your printer using your computer or mobile device, make sure it is connected to your wireless network.
  4. Place the printer close to the computer or mobile device and within range of the router.
  5. If you plan on printing from a mobile device, first setup the printer from a computer using the steps in this document. After the printer has been set up, download HP Smart app to your mobile device and add your printer.

Step 2: Restore network defaults

Use buttons on the control panel to put your printer in wireless setup mode. If you are setting up your printer for the first time, skip to the next step.

  • HP Laser MFP 130, Color Laser MFP 170: Press the Menu button , press the Right arrow until you see Network, press OK, press the Right arrow until you see Wi-Fi, press OK, select Wi-Fi Default, and then press OK.
