Load plain paper, legal size paper, or envelopes in the input tray.

note:
Never load multiple types of paper in the input tray. Load one type of paper at a time, and never load paper while the printer is printing.

Load plain paper

Load plain paper, such as A4, U.S. letter, or U.S. legal, into the input tray.

Slide the paper guides to their outermost positions.

Load a stack of plain paper with the print-side facing up into the input tray, and then slide the stack forward until it stops. If you are loading pre-punched paper, load the paper with the holes toward the left side of the tray.

Slide the paper length and width guides so that they are resting against the stack of paper.

note:
Before printing or copying, select the correct paper size and paper type settings from the control panel or computer.

Load envelopes

Load envelopes into the input tray.

Envelope Guidelines

Refer to the following guidelines to make sure the envelopes print successfully.

Do not use envelopes with clasps, snaps, windows, coated linings, self-stick adhesives, or other synthetic materials that are susceptible to heat.
Do not use envelopes that are wrinkled, nicked, stuck together, or otherwise damaged.
If you use envelopes with peel-off adhesive strips, make sure they are approved for use in laser printers.
Only use envelopes recommended for laser printers.
Use envelopes with seams that extend to the corners.

Remove any paper from the input tray, if necessary.
Slide the paper guides to their outermost positions.

Load up to 10 envelopes in the middle of the tray with the print-side facing up and the flap-side facing down.
- If the envelope flap is on the short edge, position the envelope with the flap-side down, and then insert the short edge without a flap toward the printer.
- If the envelope flap is on the long edge of the envelope, insert the envelope with the flap-side positioned to the left side of the input tray.

Slide in the paper guides until they rest against the edges of the stack of envelopes.

note:
Before printing on the envelopes, select the correct envelope size and settings.

Load smaller paper sizes

Load paper smaller than 185 mm (7.3 in) into the input tray. To print on smaller paper, use the short-paper extender tool to modify the input tray.

Remove any paper from the paper tray, if necessary.
Slide the paper guides to their outermost positions.

Remove the short-paper extender tool from the storage slot on the right side of the input area.

Align the tabs on the short-paper extender tool into the slots in the paper length guide until they snap into place.

Load the paper into the printer until it stops, and then push in the paper length guide so the short-paper extender tool rests against the edges of the paper.

Slide in the paper width guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.

Before printing, select the correct paper size and settings.

When you finish printing, remove the short-paper extender tool from the input tray, and then place it in the storage slot.
