HP 620 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Palm Rest

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the palm rest for the HP 620 Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-user should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
Small Torx (T8) screwdriver.
Parts required

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the palm rest that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

Palm rest removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. On the bottom of the notebook, remove the two 7 mm T8 Torx screws that secure the palm rest to the base enclosure.
  3. Turn the notebook right side up and open the display panel.
  4. Slide the palm rest toward the right of the notebook.
  5. Flip the palm rest toward the center of the notebook and rest it face down on the top cover.
  6. Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the TouchPad ZIF connector and disconnect the TouchPad ribbon cable from the system board.
      caution:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  7. Remove the palm rest from the base enclosure.
Palm rest replacement
  1. Place the palm rest face down in the center of the base enclosure.
  2. Insert the TouchPad ribbon cable into the TouchPad ZIF connector on the system board.
  3. Press the locking bar down to lock the TouchPad ribbon cable in the TouchPad ZIF connector on the system board.
      caution:
    Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  4. Flip the palm rest toward the front edge of the notebook and set it into position on the base enclosure.
  5. While pressing down, slide the palm rest toward the left of the notebook until it is secure and flush with the left edge of the base enclosure.
  6. Close the display panel and turn the notebook upside down.
  7. Replace the two 7 mm T8 Torx screws that secure the palm rest to the base enclosure.
