Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the inverter board for the HP Compaq nx7000 Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End-User must possess extensive product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and be familiar with the operating system.

Tools required

  • Small, Phillips-head P0 screwdrivers
  • Small, flat-bladed screwdriver or a flat-bladed alignment tool

Parts required

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the inverter board that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

Inverter board removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

  2. Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove the battery.
  3. Remove the keyboard. Click here for instructions on how to remove the keyboard.
  4. Remove the LED cover. Click here for instructions on how to remove the LED cover.
  5. Remove the display panel. Click here for instructions on how to remove the display panel.
  6. Remove the display bezel. Click here for instructions on how to remove the display bezel.
  7. Disconnect the display panel cable from the end of the inverter board.
  8. Disconnect the inverter cable from the end of the inverter board.
  9. Remove the two 5 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the inverter board to the display panel.
  10. Use a flat-bladed tool to carefully pry each end of the inverter board off of its guide pin and slide it out from under the metal display panel tab.
  11. Place the inverter board in a static dissipative bag.

Inverter board replacement

  1. Remove the inverter board from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Use a flat-bladed tool to carefully pry each metal display panel tab up enough to allow sliding the ends of the inverter board under them and onto the guide pins.
  3. Replace the two 5 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the inverter board to the display panel.
  4. Reconnect the inverter cable to the end of the inverter board.
  5. Reconnect the display panel cable to the end of the inverter board.
