HP Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Hard Drive

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the hard drive for the HP Compaq 6720s series notebook PCs.
Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.
To view the video press the Play button on the player control bar below the video.
To stop the video press the Pause button on the player control bar below the video.
To restart the video press the Rewind button on the player control bar below the video.

Step 1 - Remove the battery
  1. Slide both battery release latches toward the inside of the notebook simultaneously to partially eject the battery.
  2. Slide the battery out of the battery bay.
Step 2 - Remove the hard disk drive
  1. Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Lift the hard disk drive cover and remove it.
  3. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  4. Grasp the Mylar tab and pull the hard disk drive from the system board connector.
  5. Lift the hard disk drive out of the drive bay.
  6. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Step 3 - Replace the hard disk drive
  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Place the hard disk drive into the drive bay and align it with the system board connector.
  3. Grasp the Mylar tab and slide the hard disk drive into the connector until it is firmly seated.
  4. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  5. Toe the hard disk drive cover into the base enclosure.
  6. Tighten the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws.
Step 4 - Replace the battery
  1. Slide the battery into the battery bay until it is properly seated and the release latches click.
