The following are control-panel warning icons that may be seen on the HP Color LaserJet CM1017 MFP.

The following tables display information about control-panel error messages. The messages are grouped by general error type.
  note:
For all supplies-related issues, open the front door of the MFP and perform a physical inspection of the cartridges for damage such as broken parts, gouges/scratches on the developer rolls, or excessive leaking. Replace the cartridge if any of the above are found. If possible, print a Configuration page and note any errors listed.

This message appears when non-HP toner cartridges have been replaced by genuine HP toner cartridges.
Action
No action required. If the error persists, verify that the E-label-reader guide pins are not broken.

The <color> print cartridge may be crooked, or installed in the wrong print cartridge slot.
One of the following messages may be displayed:

Description
Ready
The supplies gauge displays the consumption levels of print cartridges. This is the message that displays when the non-HP supply is first installed.
Supply override in use. The user has decided to continue printing beyond the out point. A supply is low and using Override may result in unsatisfactory print quality.
This message also displays the entire time multiple non-HP supplies are used in the MFP.
Action
  1. If a specific cartridge is identified as defective, replace that cartridge with a genuine HP cartridge that does not cause this error in another MFP.
  2. If the error continues, contact HP Support.
Replace supply. Override in use.
Control Panel Message

Description
Ready
The supplies gauge displays the consumption levels of print cartridges.
Supply override in use. The user has decided to continue printing beyond the out point. A supply is low and using Override may result in unsatisfactory print quality.
This message also displays the entire time a single non-HP supply is used. It displays after the Unauthorized Supply message displays and after the user presses the override.
Action
  1. If a specific cartridge is identified as defective, replace that cartridge with a genuine HP cartridge that does not cause this error in another MFP.
  2. If the error continues, contact HP Support.
Non-HP <color> installed

Description
A non-HP <color> cartridge is installed. Displays one of the following messages:
  • Non HP black installed. Press OK to accept.
  • Non HP magenta installed. Press OK to accept.

  • Non-HP yellow installed. Press OK to accept.
Action

  1. If a specific cartridge is identified as defective, replace that cartridge with a genuine HP cartridge that does not cause this error in another MFP.

Description
A jam occurred in:
  • print/paper path
  • tray 1
  • tray 2
  • output bin
Action
Use the following procedure to determine what is defective.
  1. Check all jam locations in the MFP. If the control panel displays any message except Load paper before any paper is loaded in the MFP, proceed to step 2.
  2. Check the paper path for small scraps of paper. Remove any that are found.
  3. If paper continually jams at the rear-jam clearance area, replace the face-up paper delivery assembly.
  4. If jams persist at the ETB, check the ETB for damage. Contact HP Support for assistance.
  5. If jams occur in the tray 1 and tray 2 input areas, replace the feed roll and separation pad.
  6. If the error message persists and verified that the correct type/size of paper is being used and there are no small scraps of paper in the paper path, contact HP Support.
Unexpected size in tray X

Description
Unexpected paper size error. The media size loaded in the tray does not match the media size configured for the tray.
Action
Use the following procedure to determine what is defective.
  1. Check all jam locations in the MFP. If the control panel displays any message except Load paper before any paper is loaded in the MFP, proceed to step 2.
  2. Check the paper path for small scraps of paper. Remove any that are found.
  3. If paper continually jams at the rear-jam clearance area, replace the face-up paper delivery assembly.
  4. If jams persist at the ETB, check the ETB for damage. Contact HP Support for assistance.

  4. Verify that the ribbon cable connecting the memory-card-reader assembly to the formatter is not damaged and is securely connected on both ends.
  5. If the message persists, contact HP Support.
