HP Designjet 4000 and 4500 Printer Series - C5096A HP 90 Black Printhead Cleaner (C5096A) is now Available Separately

HP introduced the C5096A HP 90 Black Printhead Cleaner as a separate part for the Designjet 4000 and 4500 printer series. This Printhead Cleaner increases the reliability and ease of use of your Designjet 4000/4500 Printer series over time.
The usable life of the printhead allows for the option to replace just the Printhead Cleaner and not both the printhead and the Printhead Cleaner at the same time, as there may be times when only the Printhead Cleaner needs replaced. This new consumable was available beginning June 2006.

Why does the printer waste so much ink into the PHC?
Although the printheads are not printing continuously, they are occasionally "spitting" into the reservoirs in their respective printhead cleaners. This is to “keep them fresh” for printing when they are needed. Black ink does not have foam. Only the black ink is pigmented and forms stalagmites that may interfere with the other printheads.
The color printheads are NOT affected due to very slight differences in ink chemistry.
Do we have to replace the printhead cleaner again once we replace the printhead?
Yes. Under normal circumstances, when installing a new printhead, you should ALWAYS install the corresponding printhead cleaner.
Is it possible to clean the printhead cleaner instead of replacing it?
This new release also enables the printer to reset the ink level of the black printhead cleaner after the black ink residue is removed.
