HP Deskjet 2020, 2029 Printers - Replacing the Ink Cartridges

This document is for HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2020hc and DeskJet Ultra Ink Advantage 2029 printers.

This document contains steps for replacing the cartridges.

Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.

Replacing cartridges

Follow these steps to replace and align the cartridges.

Step one: Replace the cartridges

Follow these steps to replace a cartridge.

Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on.
Open the cartridge access door.

The carriage moves to the center of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

Lightly press down on a cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge out to remove it from its slot.

On the replacement cartridge, carefully remove the plastic tape using the pink pull tab.

Attention :
Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

Insert the cartridge into its correct slot.

Remarque :
Insert the color cartridge in the slot on the left. Insert the black cartridge in the slot on the right.

Check to make sure the cartridges sit firmly in the carriage. If a cartridge is loose, gently push inward and upward until the cartridge snaps into place.

Close the cartridge access door.

Step two: Align the cartridges

The printer's software prompts you to align the cartridges when you print a document after installing a new cartridge.

Windows

Follow these steps to align the cartridges from your computer.

Load unused, plain white paper into the input tray.
Open the HP Printer Assistant:

Remarque :
You can also open the HP Printer Assistant from your computer desktop: double-click the icon for your HP product ().
- Windows XP: Click Start (), click All Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ().
- Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ().
The HP Printer Assistant opens.
Click Maintain Your Printer. The Toolbox opens.
In the Toolbox, click the Device Services tab, and then click Align Ink Cartridges.
Click Align. The printer prints an alignment page.
Review the alignment page, and then answer the questions that display on the computer.

Remarque :
For best print quality, HP recommends that you align the cartridges each time you install a new cartridge.

Mac

Follow these steps to align the cartridges from your computer.

Make sure that unused, plain white paper is loaded in the input tray.
Click the HP Printer Utility icon () in the Dock.

Remarque :
This option is only available if you selected the HP Utility shortcut during the software installation process.

You can also open the HP Printer Utility by following these steps.
1. Click the Apple icon () in the top left of the home screen, and then click System Preferences from the drop-down menu.
2. Click Print & Fax (10.6) or Print & Scan (10.7).
3. Select your printer from the list on the left, and then click Options & Supplies.
4. Click the Utility tab, and then click Open Printer Utility.
Click Align. The printer aligns the cartridges, and then prints an alignment page.
