HP Photosmart C5300 All-in-One Series - Replacing Ink Cartridges


This document contains steps for installing replacement ink cartridges.
Steps for installing ink cartridges for the first time are not included in this document. For steps on installing cartridges for the first time, try one of the following options:

Replacing ink cartridges

Follow these steps in the order presented to replace the ink cartridges.
  Attention :
Wait until the new ink cartridge is available before removing the old ink cartridge. Do not leave the ink cartridge outside of the product for an extended period of time. This can result in damage to both the product and the ink cartridge.

Step one: Make sure the cartridge is compatible with the product

Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.
If you've installed the product software, check the Toolbox in HP Solution Center. To open the Toolbox, follow these steps:
  1. Open HP Solution Center:
    • Windows XP: Click Start, click All Programs, point to HP, and then click HP Solution Center.
    • Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, point to HP, and then click HP Solution Center.
    HP Solution Center opens in a new window.
  2. Click Settings ().
  3. Under Print Settings, click Printer Toolbox. The printer Toolbox opens in a new window.
  4. Click the Estimated InkLevels tab, and then click Shop online.

Step two: Open the product

  1. If the product is not already on, press the Power button () to turn it on.
  2. Open the cartridge door by lifting from the front right of the product until the door locks into place in the upright position.

    The carriage moves to the center of the product. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

Step three: Replace the old ink cartridges

  1. Press the tab on the front of the ink cartridge that is being replaced to release it, and then remove it from the slot.

      Attention :
    Do not lift the gray latch next to the carriage to install the ink cartridges. Doing so can result in incorrectly seated ink cartridges and printing problems. The latch must remain down in order to correctly install the ink cartridges.
  2. On the new cartridge, pull the orange pull-tab straight back to remove the plastic wrap.

  3. Twist the orange cap counter-clockwise to snap it off.

  4. With the cartridge contacts facing the printhead, slide the cartridge into the appropriate slot as indicated by the color-coded icons on the cartridge and in the printhead.

  5. Press down on the ink cartridge until it clicks firmly into place.

  6. Repeat these steps for each cartridge you are replacing.
  7. Close the ink cartridge door. The carriage moves back to the right side of the product.
