Windows Update is a tool that determines which updates apply to your computer and installs them.
Downloading updates from Windows Update requires an internet connection.
You can also update drivers using Device Manager.
Install updates using Windows Update
Using Windows Update, you can install computer updates and updates to the firmware or BIOS.
On a metered internet connection, such as a cellular data, you might need to manually download updates.
Run Windows Update
Update your Windows 11 or Windows 10 computer using Windows Update.

In Windows, search for and open Check for updates.
If there are any available updates, they begin automatically.
Note:To download and install optional updates, use the following instructions for your operating system:

In Windows 11, select Advanced options > Optional updates, select the updates that you want to install, and then click Download & install.

Disable the antivirus software
Disable the antivirus software during updates to prevent issues.
Do not forget to re-enable your antivirus software when you finish.

Click Startup > Open Task Manager.

Find the antivirus software in the list, select it, and then click Disable.

Close Task Manager.
Perform a clean restart
Restart the computer with a minimal set of startup programs.
