HP LaserJet Pro Color M351a, M375nw and M451nw Printer Series - Corrupt Manual Duplex Printed Output Only When Using the Raster Path

Issue:

When attempting to manual duplex, backsides of pages will appear corrupt or blank. The corrupt data may look like strips of data that are out of order.

  note:
This issue will occur only on units that do not have a physical duplexer:
  • LaserJet M351a
  • LaserJet M351nw
  • LaserJet M451nw
The issue is only seen when print is sent down the raster path. Applications such as Microsoft Power Point or .PDF files use the raster path. It would not usually be seen on Microsoft Word or other word processing documents unless raster path was specifically chosen.
  • The issue is only seen when attempting to manual duplex Flip on long edge.
  • The issue is NOT seen when choosing Flip on short edge.
  • The issue may not be seen on 64 bit Operating Systems.
Solution

The work around for this issue is to change the printer Device Settings (instructions below) to represent that there is no physical duplexer present.
This issue will be resolved in an upcoming 2012 software roll. This document will be updated with new software code/version number when released. At that point a software upgrade would resolve this issue.
Follow the instructions below to change the printer Device Settings:
For Windows 7:
  1. Click Start button.
  2. Choose Devices and Printers.
  3. Right click on the printer.
  4. Choose Printer Properties.
  5. Choose Device Settings tab.
  6. Scroll down to Installable Options.
  7. Find Duplex Unit (for 2 sided printing): Installed.
      note:
In a future upgrade this option will not show and the issue will not be seen.
  8. Change setting to Not Installed.
  9. Click OK.
For Windows Vista:
  1. Click Start button.
  2. Choose Control Panel.
  3. Open Printers.
  4. Right click on the printer.
  5. Choose Properties.
  6. Choose Device Settings tab.
  7. Scroll down to Installable Options.
  8. Find Duplex Unit (for 2 sided printing): Installed.
      note:
In a future upgrade this option will not show and the issue will not be seen.
  9. Change setting to Not Installed.
  10. Click OK.
For Windows XP:
  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Open Printers and Faxes.
  3. Right click on the printer.
  4. Choose Properties.
  5. Choose Device Settings tab.
  6. Scroll down to Installable Options.
  7. Find Duplex Unit (for 2 sided printing): Installed.
      note:
In a future upgrade this option will not show and the issue will not be seen.
  8. Change setting to Not Installed.
  9. Click OK.
Cause

The root cause of this issue is that the device is mistakenly setup/configured that it has a physical duplexer installed when it does not.
