HP ProBook 4331s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP ProBook 4331s Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard disk drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    • Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
    • Observe all precautions when removing and replacing components
  2. Slide the battery release latches towards the battery icons to disengage the battery.
  3. Remove the battery by lifting it out of the battery bay.
  4. Slide the battery release latches towards the battery icons until the service door disengages from the base enclosure.
  5. Lift the service door and remove it.
  6. Remove the four 3-mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  7. Using the Mylar pull tab, slide the hard disk drive to the left to disconnect the hard disk drive from the hard disk drive connector.
  8. Lift and remove the hard disk drive from the base enclosure.
  9. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Hard disk drive replacement
  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Lower the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay.
  3. Using the Mylar pull tab, slide the hard disk drive to the right to connect the hard disk drive to the hard disk drive connector.
  4. Replace the four 3-mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
  5. Place the service door on the base enclosure.
  6. Slide the service door towards the rear of the notebook until it clicks into place.
  7. Lower the rear edge of the battery into the battery bay.
  8. Lower the front edge of the battery until it clicks into place.
