HP EliteBook 8460p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Battery

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the battery for the HP EliteBook 8460p Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the battery that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

  note:
The above mentioned video depicts a specific configuration of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to all configurations of the notebook.
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. On the bottom of the notebook, slide the battery release latch (identified with a battery icon) to the release position.
  3. Slide the battery out of the battery bay.
Battery replacement
  1. Slide the battery into the battery bay until it is properly seated and the battery release latch clicks.
  2. Slide the battery release latch to the locked position to secure the battery in the battery bay.
      caution:
    Any red visible under the battery release latch indicates that the battery is not securely locked in the battery bay. This may allow the battery to slide out inadvertently and cause damage to the battery and anything it impacts.
