Compaq Evo n180 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the Compaq Evo n180 Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
Small Phillips-head (P0 or smaller) screwdriver

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard disk drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the two silver 5.5 mm Phillips-head screws in the fixed optical drive bay.
  3. Slide the drive out enough to unseat the connector.
  4. Lift the edge of the drive bracket and remove the drive.
  5. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Hard disk drive replacement
  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Insert the drive into the bay and slide it in until the connector is seated.
  3. Replace the two silver 5.5 mm Phillips-head screws.
